Planning Activities in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo has more on offer than any one trip can hold. The most satisfying stays usually mix one or two highlights with plenty of unscheduled time. Here is how to plan activities so they fit the trip rather than take it over.

The classic water outings

Boat trips to the rock arch at Land's End leave from the Cabo San Lucas marina and are among the most popular outings. Options range from short water-taxi rides to longer cruises, snorkeling trips, and sportfishing charters. Seasonal whale-watching tours also operate in certain months.

Because Marea is within walking distance of the marina, morning departures can be easy to reach on foot. Check a live map for the route from your residence.

Choosing operators

Book with established operators who clearly state what is included, how long the trip lasts, and their cancellation and weather policy. Ask about safety equipment, life jackets in appropriate sizes, and the number of people on board. Be wary of deals offered on the street that come with conditions attached, such as attending a sales presentation.

Land-based plans

Downtown Cabo and the marina are good for walking, dining, and browsing. San José del Cabo, a drive away, offers a quieter historic center and galleries. Desert and off-road tours, golf, and day trips further along the peninsula are also common. For anything involving a long drive, plan transportation in advance and check current road conditions.

Pacing your week

A useful rule is no more than one major activity per day, with arrival and departure days kept light. Leave space for a slow morning, a beach afternoon, or simply time at the residence. Weather and sea conditions can cancel boat trips, so avoid scheduling must-do outings on your last full day.

Safety and conditions

For anything on the water, follow your operator's instructions and current local guidance. Read our beach safety guide before swimming independently. If you are unsure whether an activity suits your group, ask the operator directly before you pay.
